Hærvejen is beautiful ancient route that runs through the centre of Denmark. Along the way, the route brings you close to everything your heart desires in Danish nature: sea, coast, heaths, forests and open land, as well as not least some of the most exciting places in Danish history. The history in particular is really well documented with tourist information signs in multiple languages along the wayHærvejen is a recreational route for you who want to hike or cycle in historical tracks and at the same time experience the best of Jutland's nature. To the original route I've also added more interesting single-tracks and a loop around the north coast and to the port of Frederikshaven where you can either get a ferry to Sweden or a train back towards the capital or into Germany. Also known as the 'Army Route' or 'Kings Route' this was once a principal way to access all of central Denmark in case of invasion or war. There's numerous places to stay along the route with three sided wind shelters, often with a fire pit and a composting toilet, campsites and plenty of indoor accommodation. There's quite a bit of single-track on the route but mostly it's non technical riding, but beware that it's also a popular hiking trail so please be respectful of other trail users. Bike recommendations are pretty much anything you're comfortable with, as long as it can handle multiple days of off road riding. Gravel, MTB, touring, cyclo-cross, most would be suitable. Rideable from late spring to late autumn, the weather can be bad close to the North Sea but it'll probably change quickly as well so go prepared for all eventualities. You could potentially ride the whole route without a tent, or even any camping equipment if you planned it well and booked accommodation. External link to the official website with more information:
